Le Chevalier Brun (Le guerrier de la lumière)

On l'oublie tant l'expression est devenue courante : ce que l'on nomme "monde arabe" n'existe, sous cette appellation, que depuis un peu plus d'un siècle. En fait, c'est l'essor du nationalisme arabe à partir de la seconde moitié du XIXe siècle qui a rendu ce terme d'usage commun. Et l'essor de ce nationalisme est lui-même impensable sans la diffusion dans la région de l'imprimé, et plus largement des techniques de communication de cette époque (lignes maritimes, télégraphe, etc.).

On peut faire l'hypothèse que les médias actuels – informations sur internet et télévisions satellitaires en particulier – permettent aux populations concernées de renouer avec cet imaginaire partagé sur lequel s'est fondée l'idée de nation arabe. Après les décennies qui ont vu la construction des différents Etats-nations, saturant leur propre espace national de médias totalement sous leur contrôle, on peut se demander si un regain du projet unitaire arabe n'est pas actuellement nourri par ces énormes flux numériques qui balaient instantanément tout un bassin de populations uni, grosso modo, par les mêmes références linguistiques et culturelles.

Cette hypothèse, qui séduit mais qui n'est pas sans poser de questions, rien ne l'illustre mieux que les deux grandes réalisations d'un producteur très actif dans le monde des médias régionaux, Ahmad Al-Aryan (أحمد العريان). La première, intitulée Le rêve arabe (الحلم العربي), avait eu un énorme retentissement lors de sa création en 1998 . Dix ans plus tard, ce Jordanien d'origine palestinienne vient de récidiver avec un nouveau titre, La conscience arabe (الضمير العربي), construit exactement sur le même modèle, à savoir celui d'un clip vidéo à forte teneur nationaliste, associant images de l'actualité et vedettes de la scène régionale.

Une vidéo a donc été tournée, avec une centaine de stars venues "du Golfe à l'Océan", au premier rang desquelles on retrouve une bonne trentaine des voix parmi les plus célèbres - le Libanais Wadee al-Safi, la Tunisienne Latifa, la Libanaise Nancy Ajram, l'Egyptienne Shirin, l'Algérien Chebb Khaled pour n'en citer que quelques-unes. Toutes ces vedettes ont accepté de participer, en principe bénévolement, à cette opération qui n'a été achevée que tout récemment, après avoir été longtemps retardée (elle aurait dû sortir juste après la guerre de l'été 2006, comme une sorte de réponse à la destruction du Liban par l'aviation israélienne).

Inlassablement repris par les interprètes tout au long de ce long clip (près de 45 minutes), le refrain résume le message adressé à la nation : Les gens n'ont plus de cœur, ils ont perdu tout sens de l'honneur, on dirait bien qu'on a oublié un jour que les Arabes étaient frères. (ماتت قلوب الناس/ ماتت بنا النخوة/ يمكن نسينا في يوم ان العرب اخوة).

Mais il ne faut pas se méprendre sur la lecture du mot "conscience". Il ne s'agit de la conscience positive, cette "prise de conscience" (وعي), qui ouvre à l'affirmation de soi mais au contraire de la conscience malheureuse (ضمير), celle qui naît du sentiment de la faute.

Même si certains articles critiquent le choix, l'agencement des séquences, et leur sélection au sein d'une actualité bien trop récente, cet appel à l'unité retrouvée possède une force indéniable. Proclamé avec éloquence par ces voix adulées du public, tandis que défile sur l'écran un terrifiant montage d'archives égrenant toutes les horreurs qu'a eu à subir la population de la région (répression de la seconde intifada, invasion de l'Irak, bombardements de Gaza, du Liban…), le message ne peut manquer d'impressionner le public, et peut-être sa mémoire…

Il est trop tôt pour le dire mais, d'ores et déjà, on peut remarquer qu'à la différence du Rêve arabe produit dix ans plus tôt à l'initiative du tycoon des médias, le prince (libano-)saoudien Al-Walid Ibn Talal, cette nouvelle collaboration médiatique panarabe n'aura été diffusée que par une quinzaine de chaînes publiques et privées (sur les 60 sollicitées, au sein d'un paysage télévisuel de quelque 400 chaînes désormais).

Certes, les échos de La conscience arabe ont été relayés lors de leur lancement par les plus en vue des médias nationalistes, à commencer par la chaîne la plus importante dans la région, Al-Jazeera, et par le quotidien Al-quds al-'arabi. Mais une bonne partie des médias (pro-)saoudiens ne l'ont pas diffusée, ou n'en ont parlé dans leurs colonnes qu'en termes négatifs. Ni la LBC, chaîne libanaise de divertissement très populaire dans toute la région, ni Future TV, propriété de la famille Hariri n'ont jugé utile de se joindre, à cet appel unitaire.

Une excellente illustration en fin de compte de cette "mauvaise conscience arabe" que cette "opérette" - c'est ainsi qu'on l'appelle en arabe - a eu à cœur de dénoncer.

La vidéo commence avec deux monstres (âgés) de la chanson arabe, Wadee al-Safi et Mohamed El Ezabi, puis quelques extraits du Rêve arabe. Les choses sérieuses commencent aux alentours de la septième minute.
Prenez le temps de regarder : le montage de ces images, y compris par ses choix, ses angles de vue, ses ellipses, dit beaucoup de choses sur ce qu'il y a dans les consciences (et les inconscients) du monde arabe.

45 minutes de “spectacle” (pas toujours facile car il y a des images terriblement violentes) à regarder, qui a le mérite de présenter la vidéo avec des paroles en anglais.
